Specialized Mountain Bike Track Opens in Akureyri,Iceland
Mountain biking is a growing sport in Iceland and
yesterday Iceland’s first specialized mountain bike track opened in
Kjarnaskógur forest outside Akureyri in north Iceland. The work on the track began in the summer of 2008 with
the establishment of 3-kilometer long tracks. They immediately became
popular both among bikers and hikers but as these two types of
recreation don’t always go together, a more specialized track was
needed, a press release states. The new track is 12-kilometers long and goes in a circle.
It is the longest custom-made track for mountain bikes in the country.
The track is considered a boost for the biking culture in Iceland and
bikers are expected to arrive from all around the country to try out the
new track. Iceland Review
