Day 1: Thursday

Pick up the rental car at the airport
Option 1
Optional - relax in the Blue Lagoon on your way to Reykjavik.
Use the afternoon and the evening to explore the Golden Circle the highlights of the southwest. Drive to Thingvelliir, the National Park and the location for the oldest Parliament in the world. Drive from Thingvellr through Lyngdalsheidi to Laugarvatn. From there drive to Geysir and Gullfoss. From Gullfoss drive back to Reykjavik. This trip should take 6-8 hours, about 3 hours driving. There will be daylight through the night.

Drive from the South of Iceland to Akureyri the capital of the North. Enjoying the scenic landscape on Route 1. One the way stop at Borgarnes a small pitteresque village. Hraunfossar and Barnafossar are natural gems not to be missed.

Drive from the South of Iceland to Akureyri the capital of the North (380 km).

Myvatn offers a unique natural environment and is around 2 hrs drive from Akureyi. Explore Myvatn area Dimmuborgir and Namaskard. Visit Husavik town and experience whale watching.

Day 3: Saturday
Race day - Myvatn Marathon
Lake Myvatn Marathon takes place near Myvatn Nature Baths and will start at 12.00 p.m. Participants must arrive two hours earlier.
HALF MARATHON
The run starts near Arnarvatn, which is south-west of Myvatn, and passes Grimsstadir via the village of Reykjahlid. The run starts at 1.00 p.m. and participants must be at Nature Baths at 11.00 a.m.
10KM RUN
The run starts at Neslandavik, which is north-west of Myvatn, and passes Grimsstadir via the village of Reykjahlid. The run starts at 2.00 p.m. and participants must be at
the Nature Baths at 12.00 p.m.
3KM RUN
The run starts at 2.00 p.m. and participants must be at the Nature Baths at 1.00 p.m.
EVERYONE GETS A MEDAL FOR TAKING PART
An award ceremony is held, at which the winners receive medals
The road around the lake is 36.2km long
Transport from Myvatn Nature Baths to the starting point is available for the half marathon and 10km
The route is marked with orange paint at km intervals. There are water stations every 5km and water and Powerade drinks are available.
The race course record for women is held by Bryndis Ernstdottir – 3 hrs 5 mins 16 secs (1999)
The race course record for men is held by Ingolfur Geir Gissurarson – 2 hrs 43 mins 26 secs (1999)
